Dopo l’annuncio da parte di Nintendo del Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System – alla riscoperta dei retrogames anni ’80 – pare che SEGA non voglia essere da meno, annunciando il SEGA Mega Drive Sonic 25th Anniversary Edition.
Il SEGA Mega Drive conterrà classici come Mortal Kombat I, II e III, Sonic the Hedgehog 1 e 2, Snake, Bomber ecc. e farà la sua comparsa sul mercato ad ottobre 2016.
La console a 16 bit di SEGA, rilasciata nel 1988, farà il suo grande ritorno in due versioni, ideali per accontentare tutti:
- SEGA Mega Drive: Classic Game Console – console fissa prodotta da AT Games, dotata di due classici controller wireless, con possibilità di caricare le cartucce originali del vecchio SEGA Mega Drive;
- SEGA Mega Drive: Ultimate Portable Game Player – console portatile con slot SD per caricare le ROM dei giochi.
Ad eccezione dello scopo, ovvero di console fissa e console portatile, entrambe le versioni del SEGA Mega Drive conteranno gli stessi 80 giochi classici, ovvero:
